Bali, the green island with volcanoes, lakes and paddies, has more to offer than natural beauty: painters, sculptors, gold- and silversmiths, woodcarvers, (gamelan) orchestras, batik workshops, Hindu temples and of course Balinese dance. On Sumatra, one can walk near orang utans in the rain forest of Gunung Leuser, visit the Adats and the Batak people's longhouses, or Samosir in the Toba crater lake and the colorful market of Bukittinggi. On Java, one should visit the Borobudur, the palaces of the sultan in Jogjakarta, Solo, the Bromo volcano and the Prambanan temple. On Bali, Lovina Beach and the botanical gardens of Bogor are visited and in Ubud, finally, tourists are used as a playground by macaques. 44 photos.
