Money

The Bulgarian monetary unit is the Leva. Changing money is possible in hotels, which give a good exchange rate and usually do not take provision.

If you know which places you are going to visit, you can find out online if and where there are ATM's that you can use with MasterCard and Cirrus or Visa

Language

Bulgarian is a difficult language. Many Bulgarians, and in any case ski instructors and waiters, speak English or German. Berlitz does not have a Bulgarian phrase book and there don't seem to be other phrase books either.
