Visa & passport

Your passport should be valid for at least another 6 months upon entering Jordan. You also need a visa, which can be applied for at the Jordanian embassy or consulate, or upon arrival at Amman airport or at the border.

General Information

If there is one region in the world where history was written, it's the Middle East. It has the oldest civilizations in the world, biblical and islamic history, the crusaders and Egyptian, Roman and Arabic influences. Remains of all of this can be found in Jordan (and neighboring Syria). This makes the region very interesting for everyone who is interested in history, Bible and Islam.

Money

There are enough ATMs in the cities, but it is a good idea to have dollars or euros with you, preferably in small denominations.

If you know which places you are going to visit, you can find out online if and where there are ATM's that you can use with MasterCard and Cirrus or Visa

Language

In Jordan Arabic is spoken. Try to learn a few words of Arabic, like "shukran" (thank you) and "lah" (no). The latter is much more effective if you are accosted by postcard vendors than "No, thank you." In general it is greatly appreciated if you try to speak a few words of Arabic.

Find current information on the web site of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: Jordan. Always consult your family doctor and your country's Health Department web site.
